What's religious about Halloween? Sure there's the witches and stuff, but that's all been downplayed and turned into a kiddy holiday.

Well, me and a couple of friends might be doing something. If not, I'll be spending the whole day handing out candy to kids.

I was of the understanding that it had its origins in the church as an exemplar on what you could expect from hell if you didn’t live a good and pious life. I thought it would be a positive thing?… Correct me if I’m wrong… I don’t know much about that kind of stuff!

Halloween is Samhain-Festival of the Death-Third Harvest Festival and All Hallows’ Eve, major Wiccan Sabbat. On Samhain, the God has descended into the underworld and is in a sense followed by the Goddess. They now know the mysteries of life and death, but also about re-birth.
Halloween marks a time when the veil that separates the world of the dead from the world of the living is thought to be thin, allowing for visits from the spirits of our departed ones. As Teish says, “At this time of year, when all the ancestors are roaming the streets, we pay homage to all those who have gone before us, because they truly make us what we are.”

No... as far as I know Hallowe'en or All Hallows' Eve is an old Pagan day, so it is, in effect, older than the church. Funnily enough the church does recognise November 1st as All Saints' Day...

Saying that you do not believe in Hallowe'en because of your religion is one thing, but then as it has been proven that Jesus could not have been born on December 25th, why celebrate Christmas? Also.. December 25th is another Pagan celebration day that the church "conveniently" used for Jesus' birth...

Most religious celebrations spring from Pagans ones. The Church did it so that the people wouldn't notice the change and grew to be religious after all. What happened with Halloween and All Saints' Day is the same as what you say about Christmas. It was much easier that way.

The Queen has 2 birthdays doesnt mean I suddenly believe she is a twin, xmas celebrates Jesus life, I think God will appreciate anyone who does this whether or not we have the actual day correct is just small change.

Thje bible makes it clear that witchcraft , mediums and any contact with the dead s forbidden. Celebrating witches and visits from the dead ie ghosts, spirits is not acceptable part of christian faith, which is why I do not agree with halloween.

I thought this was exactly what Tash was trying to say.
