when I am reading this right now, on sinterklassevening, I think we dutch must be amazing stupid.
But sinterklass is one of the most funny periods of the year.
Something else..he shows up at schools, where kids have to sing special songs, get presents again, he shows up at stores everywher.
The funniest thing though, this dressed up guy is always differnt, of course because he can`1t be everwhere at the sametime, and every shop, school or town has his own sinterklaas. Still the kids believe he is always the same guy, although he looks differnt every time,
Sometimes he wears glasses..is tall or short.
I always wonder how we can fool kids..or are the kids fooling us adults, to keep us happy????

Didn't they once do some sort of test, with a female teacher in front of a class with 4 year olds or so. She put on the Sinterklaas clothes and beard right in front of the class and the kids strongly believed it was Sinterklaas standing there, when she was dressed up. When asked where the teacher went, they just said something like 'I don't know' or 'she probably just left the room'. Really weired how kids can be fooled like that, but I like it .

No they don't believe it's always the same guy, they just tell kids it's a Hulp-Sinterklaas. (That's a guy who stands in for the real Sinterklaas) And they've got peace with that, since a Hulp-Sinterklaas is elected by the real Sinterklaas.

Appearantly they've fooled you all the time.

Actually not completely true, little kids can't tell the difference really. My uncle once dressed up as Sinterklaas years ago when my niece still 'believed'. While the rest of the family recognized him immidiately, she didn't see it at all and didn't even see it was her own father. To little kids, anyone who wears the suit is Sinterklaas, they don't take notice of the glasses, the color of the eyes or the size of the nose. At a later age though, when they nearly don't believe anymore, the excuse of the hulp-Sinterklaas comes in.

Hehehe depends on which kid in fact. Though about the same happened with my brother and my uncle. My uncle was a Sinterklaas once and he asked my brother to sit on his knee to check if my brother would recognize him. In front of all those kids my brother says : Hey, you're uncle Arie ! My uncle couldn't stop laughing.

my niece is WAY more blonde (read: white) than you are! don't know about you're brother, but if he has about the same colour as you do, there's no competition at all - my niece wins either way! :P

Fine, then your niece wins. :P But I'm sure I'm taller.
