The author was shooting for “nebulous,” something “poetic.”

got the book finished the book....

after reading everyone elses comments i'll agree with the 19 years later bit, quite cheesy esp the name of Harrys child, whats going on there?!

the book as a whole was really good, some bits were quite boring to read but you had to to piece everything together.

i liked the way JK told the story of Snape and how that unfolded, knowing the truth about him and dumbledore, i always thought he was on harrys/dumbledores side!!!

the whole ron hermione harry thing at the end, i never imagined Harry to end up with Hermione, cant think why but i'm glad she didnt.

i read quite a while ago that JK said Hagrid was going to have "more to do" in this book, where was that?! if carrying Harry while pretending to be dead and transporting Harry to Tonks house was more to do, i'd hate to see little to do...

i was quite disappointed that neither Ron, Hermione or Harry died.... after all what was going round i thought it was going to be one of those... Lupin, Tonks and Fred were good characters but it couldve been more main...

What happened to the Malfoys? Bellaxtrix? Luna? Shame to see these ends not tied up!

Heres to the next film anyhow!!!

Heres to the film

I finally finished the book last night. I read it VERY slowly (2 weeks), so as to make it last. I was pleased with the ending. Glad neither Harry, Ron or Hermione died. It would have been more dramatic if one of them did, but, I liked the happy ending.

The epilogue was a bit odd, but I think it was JKR's way of deciding herself what would happen with her character's lives, rather than letting fan fiction writers decide. This way, it's 19 years later and Ron & Hermione and Harry & Ginny are still together. Course fan fiction could still have them doing all sorts of things during that time, but bottom line is 19 years later they are still alive and well.

And... there is always the possibilty of a new series of the next generation's adventures.

just finished it last night and again: spoilers to follow.....

i thought it was excellent. i'm not really a huge fan but ive read all of the books once and this is probably my favourite.

the epilogue REALLY "ruined" it though, at some point when writing that she should have put down the gin and said: this is crap...

i'd actually rathered they'd not have done an epilogue at all and just left everyone guessing.

i didn't think the deaths we've spent years guessing on were cracked up to much either. as i said i'm not a huge fan but tonks, lupin, dobby and a weasely twin? i can't say i really cared that any of them died i mean she was saying main characters. i wouldn't regard any of them as anything more than sides to harry, ron and hermione.

ah well it was still a good book and the film will be awesome when it comes out.

jbj's useless trivia: apparently JKR based diagon alley on a little street in glasgow called ashton lane where my good self is known to frequent a pub or two....

Spoilers.........do we really have to say it in each message? If you don't want it spoiled you shouldn't be reading this thread.

Anyway....Snape qualifies as a major character that died, though I know most were expecting one or two of the 3 central characters.

How many of you actually figured it out already that Snape was on the up and up even when killing Dumbledore?

I admit I had completely forgotten Dumbledore's blackened hand so I didn't factor that in. I did guess that it was arranged for Snape to kill Dumbledore by the two of them. I also saw it as being the only way to save Draco Malfoy from crossing the line without being killed or tortured by Voldemort for failing to do it.

Exactly! There's a reason for me avoiding this thread until now.

Which obviously means I finally got to read it - yay me, I finally can breathe again now. I'm on Panama's and Keeper's side when it comes to Ginny, btw; I loved her character. And I'm on everyone's side when it comes to the epilogue, since that really sucked ass. The rest of the book was awesome and a proper, well, even excellent way to end these series.
