I use a pop-up blocker which is a feature of the Yahoo! Companion toolbar (which I'm assuming to be similar to Google's). The only thing is that sometimes new windows get blocked when you would not want them to (for example if I get a JT pm the little box notifying you of the pm gets blocked, but you can always open it manually browsing through the recently blocked menu).
