I like the part that says they're getting homophobic phone calls... Think about it: some people are so wasted that they'll actually call other people to insult them because they won't let them in a place where they don't want to be.

Imo that shows that some minorities someimes have no other choice than to take such drastic measures to feel safe and free of social pressure. What should shock people is not the decision itself but what lead to it.

It's like positive discrimination. You have to tip the balance to one extreme so that afterwards when you let go of it both sides will hopefully weigh the same.

It's something I highly dilske and can never agree with. Nowadays political parties in Spain have to have the same number of female and male candidates on their lists. IMO if I was one of those women I'd be always wondering whether I'm there because of my qualifications or my sex.

I will bet that if you were one of the male candidates, you would not be wondering if you were there due to your qualifications or your gender. You would KNOW that it's your qualifications.

That's one of the things that women have to come to terms with. Males feel entitled to at least try - women always hesitate and feel that they are not good enough. One of these days women will feel entitled to try too.

That's interesting. I was having the same kind of discussion with a friend about parenthood. We were agreeing that when facing a conflict with a child, the mother will think "Maybe I'm a bad mother", when the father will think "Maybe I'm not such a good father". Seems close but there's a major difference in these states of mind.

This is a generality of course, but I think it shows a fundamental difference between men and women on how they address issues and challenges.

Perhaps if girls were raised to be a bit more forceful they would feel more comfortable with making decisions.

I can only site a statistic of one but my daughter was raised to be very self confident. She will be attending Engineering school in the fall and she has no doubts whatsoever that she belongs there.

That makes a parent feel good

Oh I'm not saying that these women are not good enough. They probably are, though who's to know with politicians What worries me is the compulsory 50%-50%. What if a woman is better than a man but the law says she can't be there because she's one woman too many? Or vice versa. If the list turned out so spontaneously that would be fantastic, but the need to fill the gaps is what I don't like.

We should try and reach a state where no one need go over a job interview wondering how they'd fare because of their gender, where we don't need to think twice about whether this person is in this or that position because she's a woman/he's a man.
