I suppose how you interpret those thinkers (and their thoughts) really depends on how you interpret history itself

All in one subject (and then one that doesn't even exist here )??? What does all that deal with politics???
We did that in biology, ethics, german and history.
and also, its dependant on the level of education you are at, for example at high school for instance (or the equiv.) the above mentioned thinkers may be all set out nicely in differing topics but as you go into further education those boundaries between the subjects are blended into one.

For me, the title of this module (call it what you like) is modern european thought thus allowing it to involve politics, social aspects and so on

I can certainly understand Jana doing them in politics as many of the ideas formed then constitute modern countries and how they were formed, Montesquie for example being prevelant in the French Revolution and thus the formation of modern france and Rousseau could be argued as the main inspiration for the formation of the American revolution/constitution

There are some teachers who always want us to think of all those people and theories and make connections and use everything that we can think of for an interpretation but like I said it's only theories, opinions - everyone thinks different about it people change these things... I'm not someone who can really use that - I need facts - proved facts and not something that might happen if...
sure everything starts with that but some topics have been discussed over hundreds of years - and then you gotta learn about everything anybody anytime was thinking about. And 10 years later anyone tells something completely different. That's why I'm not really interested in those interpretations. I mean - one theory + another theory + an opinion... and then in the end there should be something that still has anything to do with reality?
