If you havent ahd your appointment to see he consultant yet you should ring the consultants secretary at the hospital , the switchboard will put you through. Ask her to check that she has your details(might have got lost) and ask how much longer before your appointment comes through.

Dawn
Thanks Dawn i will give that a go, just got to find out his name now from the doctor
If you call your GP receptionist she should be able to look at your files and tell you the name of teh consultant that your GP referred you to.

Good luck.

Dawn

haha if only it was that easy! all your doctors are private over there which is great. you can get in when you want and everything is resolved quickly. over here we supposedly pay for our health service in out taxes, national insurance etc so unless you want to pay a fortune and go private, you're pretty much stuck with what you've got.

hope it all gets resolved soon ukjovi. keep on their backs about it.

That totally sucks!!!

Does that mean you don't pay for your insurance (besides your taxes)? If you did go private, how much would it be?

The NHS does suck! Back in June my sister Joanne was diagnosed with cancer and was told that on the NHS she'd have to wait 3 months to start keemo, by that time it wouldve been pointless. Luckily her husband is in Bupa through work and she can get covered as well, so she ended up going private for her treatment!

WTF????

hm, that reminds me of my neighbor. The wife was from The Netherlands and her little sister was diagnosed with cancer. I don't recall the exact circumstances, but for some stupid insurance reasons the little sister didn't get the absolute best care immediately. We are talking about a 17 year old with skin cancer that had already spread throughout her body. It was quite urgent. My neighbor legally adopted her to get her into the US and on his insurance plan so she could have the care she needed. Unfortunately, it was too late and the sis died within a couple of months

Thats horrible.

Joanne started complaining of being unwell back in december 02, and went to the doctors a number of times and they said, its this that and the other each time she went. It wasnt until May this year that she went for an ultrasound, she got the results June 23rd. So it took 6 months for them to catch something that she'd complained about back in December.
She has liver and bowl cancer and was told if it wasnt found in June or it was left until a month later, there wouldve been nothing anyone couldve done.

So basically the health system sucks, everywhere!

I hope your sis gets well

My Dad had chemo and a few years later radiation treatment. He is back going strong now even though they gave him a max of 1 year - that was 14 years ago. 10years later the cancer came back - he went through radiation therapy and is fine for now. He felt like shit for a year each time, though.

Cheers I'm glad your dads still going strong!

When she has her keemo, it is attacking the cancerous cells instead of her healthy body cells, so thats a positive thing! It was just a shock, shes only 27 and it makes you think that no matter how old you are anything can happen.

But fighting strong thats the way

we dont have insurance, and those that do (private people) pay a lot for the priviledge

the NHS has both good and bad sides, yeah you have to wait most of the time. But its free, what do you expect? A poor person with a broken arm here can walk into a hospital without being laughed at for not having the right kind of insurance
