Default How can a widescreen TV have 1024x768 native resolution?

Hey

This question has bothered me for ages and no one I've asked can give me a decent explanation.

1024 x 768 is a 4:3 (fullscreen) resolution. Some Plasma TV's are sold pointing out they have this native resolution. However, they can still display 1080P High Def Images.

How is this possible? Surely they're not really 1024 x 768?

Dave

I've never seen any widescreen TV listed as 1024 x 768 resolution. A lot will have 1366 x 768, though more here now seem to have the full 1920 x 1080 resolution. Seems stupid to me though - I use 1280 x 1024 on my 19" monitor, so if I was buying a huge TV, something like 37-42" then I'd definately want it to be full resolution. I just had a quick look on a couple of sites, and found a 63" LCD that is only 1366 x 768, and I have to wonder why anyone would want that? At that size I'd think that even 1920 x 1080 would be a bit low.
