As a history student, I'm all for teaching the younger generation about Rememberance Day. There are a lot of people who don't know why we give a moment of silence at the eleventh hour, of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. One moment of silence is the least that we can do for those who died for the freedom we enjoy today.
Kinda off topic, but apparently there is an MP from Quebec that refused to give Canadian flags to veterans' at a Quebec legion. Here's an excerpt from the Toronto Star:
However, Bloc Québécois leader Gilles Duceppe and MP André Bellavance have shamed themselves in the days leading up to Nov. 11, by refusing to hand out Canadian flags to veterans in Richmond, Que., who needed them. It is a service MPs routinely provide.
Apparently, the Bloc relented and gave the veterans their flags, but I was still disgusted by the situation.
