Anyone ever find that some people can be very smart but suck at general knowledge?
I don't think that is the problem here. Certain historical dates aren't general knowledge - it is acquired knowledge. Knowing that you fall if you step off a roof might be general knowldedge. lol.

The fact that she is a straight A student studying law pretty much shows that she is doing a great job at learning and studying the material presented to her. Unfortunately, history has not been presented to her. Not her fault.

What I find outrageous is that history isn't a required class in your school system. It should go along with math, language, and science.

Of course this coming from someone who had history as mandatory class from elementary to high school and even at the university I had to take one history class (I could choose the timeframe or country I wanted to learn the history of, but it had to be a history class). I could never imagine someone going through school without history classes. Makes me appreciate my schooling even more :P
