I sleep far too much and am perpetually tired. Falling asleep at 8:00pm every night and getting woken up by the West Wing theme tune coming from the DVD menu is becoming a real problem...

Ha! Perhaps it's just this converstion about your insomnia that's tiring you out

Anyway, sleep is very personal thing and it's very hard to give universal "instructions" for getting good sleep. Nowadays irregular daily rhytms are a rule and it's making getting regular sleeping rythms a challenge.

My last advice: sleep when you're tired and save it for the night time.

Opposite problem tonight. It's 4:30am and I'm as awake as I've been the last fortnight.

I've never really worried whilst in bed but if something big is coming up with work or life I'll have strange dreams.

Used to happen before I went back to school or uni over the Summer holidays too so the amatuer psychologist in me thinks it's something to do with me being too laid back so my stress comes out subconsciously in my dreams.

If you lie awake and worry try and think of something else that takes a bit of brainpower. An old guitar tutor in my school told me if he couldn't sleep he'd try and work out different positions for playing songs and scales Sounds a bit strange but he said it worked for him and he learned stuff while he was there....

For anyone struggling to get a good sleep I'd really suggest some nytol or any other herbal sleeping tablet. It doesn't knock you out cold but if you take a few and just chill out and let your mind wander you'll fall asleep in no time but the best part is you'll wake up feeling like you've had an absolutely great sleep and have tonnes of energy.

I would take them every night if i didn't think I'd build up a mental dependancy on it.

I normally have problems trying to get to sleep. It's worse around exam time (probably because of stress) and I'm lucky if I get 3 hours sleep. But even when I don't have any exams or anything stressful to worry about insomnia can be a problem.

And the worst thing is, even when I get to sleep I get stupid recurring dreams about dying or just wake up frequently. . I guess I'm just not meant to be a deep sleeper!

Well, having been up since 1:30 yesterday morning, there really is something wrong if I don't drop off tonight.
