I run as often as I can. I'm trying to build up my running distance to at least five miles - I'm up to 3.5 at the moment. Its easier because I enjoy knowing that I'm building my endurance.

In the winter I don't run, instead I focus on weightlifting.

EDIT:To answer the original question - yes, society has grown extremely lazy. I can stand at the mall and count, and the number of people who have at least ten or more pounds to lose outnumber those who don't to the point where there's really no point in keeping track.

I don't think that being overweight is necessarily an indicator of how lazy someone is. Yes, it might often correspond, especially in extreme cases, but generally it is as reliable as to say, the skinnier the fitter.

I have a friend who I'd consider 'overweight' and she probably should lose at least 10 pounds. Yet, she runs half marathons, participates in triathalons and works out a heck of a lot more than I do. Another friend of mine is very thin, a size 2, and all she ever does is check herself in the mirror and paint her toenails.

Woman in Safeway/Morrisons yesterday morning quite obviously obese with her not-too-tiny child in push-chair. What was she buying? Two MAMMOTH bags of Doritos and an eight-pack of doughnuts!!!

People eat this crap and then wonder why they can't lose weight! Well it's pretty simple really - a balanced diet and exercise works for most people! And I'm sick of people claiming that, 'it's in my genes,' cos it has never been the massive problem that it is fast turning into meaning that people actually did stuff in the past instead of sitting on their arses scoffing crisps and junk food, playing on computer games or watching TV!

Why is it so difficult to grasp that moderation is OK but over-indulgence is damaging? I eat the odd slice of chocolate cake and the occasional pack of crisps but couple that with a 4 mile roundtrip walk to uni EVERYDAY (sometimes up to 8 miles if two trips are involved!) as opposed to sitting on a bus and its easy to see why I'm only 11.5st being 6'2"!

Yes, society is getting intolerably lazy and is costing the taxpayers millions, if not billions, every year on the NHS because most can't be bothered to take the doctors advice and manage diet and exercise responsibly!!!

In the past 18 months io've done so much more excersise and its really helped me lose weight. Its not about going to the gym 4 times a week either, I walk places now when I used to automatically get in the car.

I do agree though people are getting really lazy, I look at my younger sister who gets lifts everywhere from her stepdad and me, I used to walk about 2 miles a day just getting to school. Ok im gonna shut up now cos im sounding really old!!

when you eat you put on calories (or joules if you wish...) when move you burn calories- when you burn more calories than you put on then you won't gain weight- it's as easy as that
