No, I don't believe that you think she should say that to her son. I belive that it shows lack of tact that you would even post those words here, and call it humour.

I've already said it's tactless. That was the point.

It was rude and insensitive. When people loose a loved one, animal or human, they don't need to hear crap like that. You can defend yourself all you want, but you still look like an ass for posting it.

Maria--I do sympathize with you. Many cats like to be outside and owners have to balance letting them have freedom and keeping them safe. I don't think you were negligent or to be blamed. I hope that he's actually safe somewhere and comes home. Is there any way he could get under your house?

Oy - people - get a sense of humour. I didn't believe for one minute that Paul meant Maria should really talk to her son that way. I think he was being sarcastic and saying that to wind her up in response to her subject "I am horrible" Or maybe I'm twisted too. I would never talk to a kid like that - I don't think too many people would except maybe a mass murderer.

Maria - you are NOT horrible. I have a cat now that is an indoor cat but I have had some that insist on going out. Tell your son the truth - gently please - and hope that the cat shows up. If he doesn't - you can talk about it further. Kids have a great bullshit detector - don't lie to him.

That's sad for your son and yourself... but it is stuff that can always happen with pets. But if he was such a low energy fellow he's probably in someone else's house or backyard enjoying some comfort.

Did you try and put signs that he's missing in your area?

If anything bad did happen to him, I'd say the most likely is getting hit by a car, rather than being another animal's lunch... aren't cats top of the food chain anyway?

Oh, and why was I so sure you lived in a downtown Seattle house and not on the edge of a jungle? :S

And you are NOT horrible.

Kathleen, I wouldn't talk to an ADULT like that either. Maria has lost HER pet too. If something happened to one of my cats, I wouldn't want somebody making up a scenario of torture. When you don't know, all the worst things go through your mind anyway, so who needs someone adding to it in the name of humor?
