Hehe, no, you havent shattered any of my dreams. I just didnt understand what you were saying. Thank you for gtting back to me and explaining in more detail.

Yeah I understand what you are saying. That makes a hell of a lot of sense too me now. I think its a better idea for kids to still 'believe'. Xmas just isnt the same actually knowing where all your presents are coming from. Santa was still a mystery to everyone and that is what I meant by its 'magical experience'. I think thats wonderfull for kids.

Maria - I managed to keep "the lie" going for my two older boys pretty easily. However they were 9 and 11 when my daughter was born and they delighted in bashing all her childhood fantasies about Santa, and the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy, the little shits <sigh>

On the other hand, my daughter won't even read fiction - it's non-fiction and science all the way with her so maybe she wouldn't have bought the Santa story anyway.

When we were little, we'd put presents to each other under the tree and then open them on Christmas Eve and just the kids opened presents from Santa Claus on Christmas morning. When we stopped believing in Santa Claus, we just opened everything on Christmas Eve, except this year. We didn't open anything until Christmas night.

I agree. I think I was pretty young when I figured out that the christmas angel was made up by adults and it was really my Dad who put the presents under the tree while my Mom took us for a walk outside.

Adults can be sooooo lame - it is quite a challenge to keep 'the lie' alive and well

hehehe, I have 3 older sisters - they took care of my fantasies as well *sigh*

How old were your boys when they figured it out and how? Actually, that is a question for everybody!

I think I was either 10 or 11, Maria. I just dont get that excited anymore. I dont think I will get really excited about it, untill I have children of my own...thats when that whole 'magical experience' can start all over again.

I don't remember when I stopped believing in Santa Claus. I do remember being very young, maybe 4 or 5, and trying to convince everyone that I had seen Santa in the living room on Christmas Eve. I think it was just a dream, but to me it seemed very real. To this day, it still seems very real! LOL!

I think I was 11 when I figured it out. I found the receipt for Toys r'Us by accident. Speaking of Santa, I don't even think there was a present for under from Santa under the tree this year

I don't remember when I stopped believing but, and as much as I think that to a certain extent it is wrong to tell children a strange man sneaks into the house, I believe such things are quite an important part of development.

My parents had me believe that my toys were alive and to believe in magic and other such things and I am grateful for that because it helped to develop my imagination, which has now become very bizarre, but I like that, and without those "lies" I was told as a child I wouldn't have that.
