Default If you were in a band...

how would you treat your fans??

I just had one of the most amazing weekends of my life. I went to a concert on saturday night. the singer recognized me from a previous concert and after the show the band went to a bar with me and my friend, bought us drinks and later we went backstage with them and stayed there until 6 am. How great is that? they were really down to earth. during the whole night we hardly talked about them but instead we all talked about movies, other bands, holidays...etc etc

would you do this with your fans? :P

well....

and REALLY not wanting to blow ones own trumpet here.

I'm not particularly ashamed to admit that my band are shit hot and although we're nowhere near superstars or anything, I'll get people walking upto me int he street or in a bar or work saying hey you're in that band aren;'t you? blah blah blah

and apart from being a huge ego bnoost. it's a really cool thing.

some people have just seen us and remembered us and some have been in bands we've played with and some i';ve spoke to at gigs n stuff and to be honest, I'm useless at remembering names and faces. if i'm chattign someone up I literally need to say, im not being ignorant but ill probably need to ask you're name again in 5 minutes so I rarely remember or know the people but I'll always talk to them and buy them a drink or whatever.

There's no real point in being pretentious really. as i said, havign people recognise you and like you is a bigger ego boost than the one you'd get acting all high and mighty and shunning them.

but anyways...

most famous people i've come across are exactly the same. not wanting to name drop but I've met and know several guys who have toured the world, had number ones, worked with pretty much anyone major you can imagine, the 2 top dudes with regards to live aid and been worth millions and the only person i've ever came across who was a dick was a music critic and Bob geldoff.

everyone else, from the people hauling the gear, running the gigs and taking the photo's right upto the guys onstage have all been as genuine and nice as your average guy on the street.

that was a bit long winded and I probably have sounded like I'm puffing myself up but that's not my intention at all. I just happen to be in a band and have been fairly involved inthe industry compared to your average person so I thought the insight would be cool.

I think that initially we would all say, "Oh, yeah, I'd be GREAT toward all my fans." But then reality would set in and if you had 300 people waiting for you by your bus it would be a lot harder to say, "Hey, guys, come on in and have a drink." So, while I'd like to think I'd be super-nice to everyone, I know that would only be possible while the fans were still in small numbers.

Of course, if I were in a band, those fan numbers always would be small, especially if I were the singer.

thanks for this little insight into the music biz

i'm just wondering...even if it's an ego boost that people recognize you, would you take them backstage and talk to them for 7 hours nonstop and buy them drinks?? i probably wouldn't

well....

my brother itnerviewed a band called flickerstick last time they were in glasgow and we went to a clubw ith them later on and had a blast.

guitar george from dire straits' sultans of swing blethered to me n my mates for ages even though he was working and gave us a promo copy of his album.

Midge Ure was cool enough to jam and watch my band and the guys from the darkness were pretty content to talk away for ages until they had to go and do their set so alot of people are really cool about it but i suppose it justd epends on the people and situation.

other folk have exchanged nicetites then disappeared.

If there's a chance of getting laid, I bet many bands would do it. I know many such cases.
