You asked the question...

Humans don't learn from history, if we did, how come we do the same stupid shit again and again and again?

We don't learn anything practical from history, except that we don't learn anything from it. As a historian (though my field is history of economics and economic history…) that’s the best answer I can come up with if someone asks the question “why don’t we ever learn?”

Ok, I wasn't sure if it was that that you meant or that there is nothing to learn from History.

To be honest, everyone knows that the US is the major space player..its not exactly rocket science...so why exactly do they feel the need to effectively rub everyone elses noses in it? Something about Penises?

My point is that we live in a finite world and things can't always be in favor of the US. Cooperation is something that is mandatory in this day and age of instant information and shrinking boundaries. There is an arogance to the present government that I dislike intensely. That doesn't mean that China (or anybody else) would be any better or handle things any differently.

OK, now this is something I can understand. No incendiary verbal hystrionics like 'regime,' just the opinion. I appreciate that, especially when you are talking about the country and government you like enough to spend your whole life in and under.

And about arrogance, I think it is the belief of many people that arrogance is necessary in order to convey confidence and get some decisions made, and some things that are necessary, done. And, whether you agree with that or not, millions do, and it can often (not always) gets the job done, and therefore it can be considered a legitimate way to run the government given the circumstances.

And I trust our government there much more than I would China's (who is part of the UN somehow), or North Korea's or Iran's. My point about that was that the UN is a governing body just like any other (and just as corrupt as any other) and it passes blanket laws all the time.

World law dictated by one governing body which is more corrupt and flacid than it must be to accomplish its weighty tasks. And it makes global laws. And that is ok with you. But you don't trust (like?) America (or Bush?).

That is the bottom line.

Well, I say many people don't trust the UN or respect it and would like to see it eliminated (or vastly reworked), yet they still pass laws.

Again, it's not because I'm raising critics about the US government that I think the UN is perfect and can't do no wrong.

Still, the UN resolutions are voted by several countries numerous and different enough to represent the world, not just one. That is a major enough difference with this unilateralism decision taken by the US to auto-proclame themselves "space legislators".

Of course the UN should be reformed. So should the US imo, and most of the western countries political systems.

Same shit, different day. If one things for certain, it's that this place never changes. Just think: Bush will be out of office in another couple of years or so. What will you find to bitch about then?

it's not bush himself people are bitching about.

it's the totally ineptness of the man and the reprehensible policies and actions his administration enact that people are bothered by.

rest assured he's probably going to **** up alot more stuff within the next few years. I just hope he's not stupid enough to try and sneak into iran before the US wakes up and gets rid of him and his ilk but i'm not holding my breath.

So you agree with this unilateral decision?

Bush being out of office doesn't necessarily mean this administration will be out of office, or that the next one won't have the same flaws.
If it does change for the better in 2008 for the US (imo), I'll find the next biggest bastard in the western world, one of those leaders that actually have the power to change things for the better but don't for shit reasons. From the looks of it, there are good chances for that person to be the next French president.

Erm, then what about all those people that were told to move to France if they didn't support our current man in charge????

Did that actually happen?

Today they've got about 50% chances to be ****ed comes May 2007, but I doubt (and hope to death) that guy will actually be elected. And don't come to Canada either, the current Prime Minister is also a Bush clone. He's been in place for like 8 months and his popularity has droped to something like 15%...
