how expensive or inexpensive was it?

ive been to crete but i dont think cheap beer and vodka is a fair indication of the cost of living in greece as a whole.

any other european country i've visited is cheaper than greece - even switzerland. no, wait... bottles of water are cheaper here. :/
the nightlife is vivid if you're into clubbing and the such - i'm not so i couldn't recommend you any places.

acropolis of athens is being reconstructed. it has suffered some strong earthquakes, air pollution, acid rain, even bombings. i can see the parthenon from the city centre but haven't been there for many years.

captain crash did you go to The Mall? it's near the olympic stadium, my favourite place of the city (for shopping )

That was my impression as well. And cigarettes are quite cheap.

In Athens though, you do well with a Pita Gyros for 1.70 €. It's delicious.

Another thing, I couldn't believe how everybody threw their waste away, equal what garbage, equal what place. It's unbelievable.

No, we didn't know about it. We went shopping in The Plaka and on Ermou Street between Syntagma and Monastiraki. Next time.
Plus, it was not the nicest weather that day and I just wanted to have a look at the stadium. So, we drove there, looked around and drove back...

the weather didn't help huh?
well, cigarettes cost around 3 euros so, yeah, they're cheaper (but that's not a good thing). gyros and souvlaki are cheap but you can't eat that thing all the time.
and garbage is not the only problem. i can make you a long list but that'd take me a lot of hours. did you notice the stray animals? most people and the state don't care about animals and that makes me mad.
on the other hand athens is a safe city and there are some beautiful places, especially in the suburbs.
btw i'd choose germany over greece anytime

I cannot believe that there has nothing (or pretty much) nothing been done in eons. I spent a night in Athens on a layover some 17 years ago and the strays were out of control. We ate dinner at a restaurant outside and there were hordes of cats begging for food - one of them was particularly pitiful and had only one eye It's haunted me since.

My sister just got back from a trip to Greece and she said the homeless dog situation is absurd. They had different dogs follow them for days. So so sad!

There have been efforts to transport some of them to other countries (while in Germany, there was an article in the paper about some lady paying for the trip for a stray dog if somebody was willing to adopt it) which of course brings up an entire new discussion. I don't think there is a country that doesn't already have too many animals and thus, importing them from other countries makes their problem even worse.

Why exactly is there no spay/neuter policy to start with? Who dumps those animals and why aren't they euthanized or rehabilitated?

There was some outrage in the animal rescue community during the olympics when Athens was taking initiative to reduce their stray population ..... whatever happened with that?

i don't know what happened. it seems like an issue nobody wants/ cares to touch. i'm not for euthanasia, i think they should start a shelter/ sterilisation programme. during the olympics they picked up stray animals from the streets. now they're back and most of them wear identification tags. anywhere in greece you can see stray animals - thousands of them. it makes me so angry and sad. but in a society where most people don't care about animals why should the state care?
