Sorry Adrian, that is truly a bummer. I guess they have a lot of applicants if they can be so rude about the most basic curtesy. Ugh - I hate it if they do that.

The firm I worked for used to be pretty good about the calling/writing back. But there was this one guy who interviewed the day we had this earthquake and he was in with the partner when the building started shaking, they both buckled down underneath the partners desk - pretty stressful for an interview if you ask me. He was no fit for our group and the partner never called him back to tell him that. It annoyed the heck out of me, cause I knew the guy was waiting to hear from us and he really wanted the job. ...

Anyway, keep sending those resumes, something will give eventually.

As far as your summer classes, I understand the predicament you are in and it truly sucks!!

LoL i never heard here or in india about calling back and telling applicant that they didn't get the job. Usually when we don't get a call for sometimes, its means that u didn't get a job...It will be really hard to call and tell all the applicant and inform regarding not getting job, especially country like india where for one post u get like 1000 applications ...

Of the two dozen or so places that I've applied, only Radio Shack has let me know that I wasn't wanted. I guess it means they REALLY don't want me working for them when they send three "no thanks" emails for one application... The worst is Office Depot. I've been promised a letter and/or a phone call "within the next week" three times in the past 10 weeks.

On the brighter side, I've got two interviews tomorrow - my trip to the mall this afternoon was quite fruitful. Sam Goody and Gamestop at 2 and 6. Plus I'm going to pick up applications from and meet the managers at 2 other Family Video stores.

Spunkywho:Would you recommend that I go back and re-interview at the video store that turned me down when they have their open interview night? Everyone's telling me to be persistant, but I'd kinda like your opinion on it. I don't think it can hurt (I've already been turned down) and it might just show them that I'm dedicated/persistant.

Thanks.

as for the open interview.

Go for it. worse case: they say hey havent we seen you before? get to ****. best: you get a job.

I've never failed a job interview to be honest (i'm brilliant at bullshitting when i need to ) but i wouldn't be pissed if they didn't write or phone to tell me I hadn't got it. sure it's courteous but it's not like you won't know the score after a couple of weeks and if you've got dozens of people applying, if i was in charge I wouldn;t be wasting staff time doing that.

This is up to you. Like you said, it cannot possibly hurt you. Did they give you a reason as to why you weren't qualified/suited for the job (feel free to pm me)? I do think showing persistance and real interest is generally a plus, but don't get your hopes up as they don't seem to be too professional to begin with.

Have you tried a Starbucks? I always think every guy should get a job at Starbucks, just because they learn to be neat :P

Jim: Not every failed interview is due to the interviewee not being able to bullshit enough. Often it is just random luck. While you think you are good in bullshitting, people who actually work at that job will see through a bullshitter quite easily. The jobs you got might not be due to your bullshitting skills after all.

Well, you guys are gonna be seeing a bit less of me coming up...I got a job at my first interview at Sam Goody. Very cool! Everyone's really nice there, and it seems like a fun atmosphere to work in. $6 an hour, starting out at 15-20 hours a week. Only thing I don't like is I have to maintain a small quota of magazine and Replay club subscriptions. I hope that works.

I'm waiting on GameStop to call, I had an interview there last night. Also, I'm applying at a different Family Video (I'm meeting the manager after lunch) and I'm still going to the open interview at the place that rejected me. And to answer your question Spunkywho, they didn't give me a reason. It would be my guess that I didn't come across as confident enough.

Adrian
