Today, since we had a snow day, I was watching TV and came across the talk show Maury. Today, his guest was a 28 year old woman that starved herself to the point that she was sixty pounds. She starved herself by only eating baby food to fit into a swim suit for her senior graduation. By the time senior graduation rolled around her dream suit was too big for her. By this time, she became obsessed in losing weight. So, she continued to do so. She was a promising, beautiful girl, even had someone very dear to her that had a wonderful future. But she threw it all away as she shed the pounds. She looks at herself now and sees a creature rather than a human being. She sleeps on the couch to punish herself, because she thinks she does not deserve to sleep in her bed. Her mother made her write out a will, because she is so close to death.

Anorexia, I think, would be harder to get rid of than obesity. When you become anorexic, you learn to fear food which causes you to get sick whenever you eat. Thus, the one thing that is keeping you alive cannot be put in your body. I do believe that they have clinics for anorexia, but people don't always choose to get help. There is also no surgeries that can be done to help people with anorexia. Unlike people who are obese. There's that new surgery that shrinks the stomach, and removes instestine to allow the person to loose weight. Also, obese people can use gradual means of diet and exercise to shed pounds slowly (due to health conditions). Anorexic people do not have such a variety of ways to help their condition.

Now I am a bad person because I joked with someone and she was joking. I wasn't saying being anorexic is funny, or being fat is funny. I am sorry you see it that way. Trust me because I am not small myself and I worry about Heather sometimes with that. Becky's story was good and sstefazy, I don't appreciate your comment and I don't think anorexia is funny nor do I think obesity is funny. I asked for an opinion and showed a joke that wasn't intended to insult anyone. See it as it is, my family has a record of obesity and I worry about my grandfather who is not a small guy. As for his wife, (my grandmother) She died in mid September due to her unhealthy eating habits and not to mention she has had numerous heart surgery's... I was just wondering which is worse? I think anorexia is worse because it's more of a life threat and if you let obesity grow, than it can become life threatening. Anorexia, in my eyes are girls trying to be skinny and feel fat after they eat anything. It is very unhealthy, and there really isn't a cure. So when I look at it, I can see that they are both bad, but Anorexia is worse because a cure cannot be found, and people can't help it.

Well, Ryan, I think there are certain things you can't really joke about. It may have been a harmless remark, but for lots and lots of people who are struggling against all this, is not very nie to see this issu so lightly treated.

When my father had his heart attack a couple of weeks ago, my neighbour, a man whi has gone through several heart attacks himself, made some joke about when my father was plannig to have his next heart attack, and he laughed heartily. Well, after all he's been through he may be happy to be alive and can just joke about anything. But for me, who was worried while my father was in hospital this was a terrible comment. And I did know he meant no harm, but it hurt anyway.

There are things one has to be very careful about, I think.

It's cool. I guess I can understand people taking it the wrong way but I didn't intend on pissing people off and etc. Sorry.

Very true. Maybe it's his age and he doesn't really realize how serious those 2 problems can be medically for someone.

Did I say that I didn't understand? Trust me, I do understand because I have a grandfather with an obesity problem. I am 17 and very capable of comprehending things. It was a little joke, not supposed to take an offense to anyone. Not to mention, I am not so small myself.

Agreed.... Here is a question though... Is it harder to lose weight for an obese person, or gain weight for an anorexic person?

well when ur anorexic u think ur fat even when ur not so its a mental thing that stops u from eating. being overweight on the other hand most people know they have a problem and its a matter of willpower to fix it.

scientifically the heavier u r the faster u initially lose weight.
