Credibility. In myths and legends, it's always the old men that are the wise men. And I believe that's where it was adopted to Christianity. If god was portrayed as a young man (or god forbid a woman) he wouldn't have the credibility, power and authority.

if god was a woman maybe wed just lay little eggs and leave them there until they hatch, instead of going through pregnancy and then giving birth!
