umm the eye for a eye thing is biblical. Exodus 21:22-25 -
22 - If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart and yet no mischeif follow : he shall be surely punnished, according as the womans husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine.
23 - Eye for a eye, tooth for a tooth, hand for a hand, foot for a foot.
24 - Burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.

Not sure what it all means but yup the eye for a eye thing is in there.
