What i dont get is why blacks in America call themselves Niggers yet if a white man were to call a black man nigger he'd be racist? i could understand it if he said junglebunny

I saw a similar discussion recently elsewhere and someone said that in an old dictionary they had the word nigger was listed as something along the lines of 'ignorant person' so it is just like how the word gay went from meaning happy to homosexual, the word nigger has gone from meaning ignorant to meaning black. I understand, to an extent, why black people use words like that, it is a way of re-claiming them and taking away the shock/insult value and making them 'normal' words again, but I don't think it works really.

The NACCP is trying to stop blacks using that word too. Personally I think that is a terrible word, but I think because of the history behind it.
