and I've never heard anyone say a peanut butter and jam sandwich, they always say peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

Well first of all does no-one else here find the term retarded in reference to something that a person doesn't like to be extremely cruel?

Of course to most Brits saying Mom sounds stupid whereas Mum is the norm.

Well logically you say Mom to shorten Mother, so why not Fam to shorten Father?
