Default Jesus actually existed ?!?!?!?!

That what i was told the day on the history channel. I always thought there was no proof he existed but they have something (didnt catch the start so dont know exactly what) but they showed you what he would have looked like and stuff like that. They talked about evidence he challanged the romans and all that as well....pretty cool i always thought he was a miff.

Yes, he existed. The son of God stuff is a bit debatable, but he was an actual person. The BBC did quite a good documentary on him about a year ago.

Aloha !

That's different for each person individually. What you believe is true.

We once tried to find that out during an ethic lesson. At the end we had not much more than that he existed and some places where he has been and that's all...or did he even learn a job? I don't know it anymore but there were rarely facts which could be prooved.

I wonder if he had a surname, like Jesus Smith or Jesus Brown or something, or if it was just a single name, like Madonna or Sting, lolal.

I think there probably was some bloke who appeared to perform miracles or something (stories which got exaggerated over time), but it was probably just a time travveller or something, lol. Think about it; the story about water into wine...probably just dilute cordial, lolal....and healing people, well those diseases could be cured in the future, lol

I'm not religious at all, and think that science has the true answers. For one I can't believe that people believe that a big almighty power created them, and made everything all in one week...we evolved over millions of years, with fossil evidence to prove it.

I don't want to get into another debate like this now, as Ihave work to do, so maybe another time, lol.

okay... youre in /my/ territory now....
im doing a degree int he bloopdy subject for goodness sakes.

theres little argument as to whether Jesus existed. whether or not he was 'the son of god' is another question entirely... we spend most of our tutorials looking at things like that....

the documentary on bbc we watched some of... i found it fascinating myself and very accurate in what it was saying, and rfom the sound of it, the one on the history channel may have been the same one... i dunno.. do you know what it was called?? i kinda want to watch it cause it would be useful....

depends on what you go on really... there was a guy called Josephus, who outside of the Bible is the leading source on Jesus, and theres currently a debate going on as to whether Jesus and 'Jesus Ben Panthera' (cant spell it properly... if it wasnt 3am id find the book) were different people or the same person....

as for the whole science thing....

interesting facts... science and faith go hand in hand (at the moment i wouldnt say im religious- im kinda taking a step back from it) science has actually provided most of the proof that exists for Jesus' existance, and also some of the more bizarre things that happened; for example - Jesus sweating blood and stuff (the documentary had that in- if you can get hold of it watch it- i watched from the point of view of a scientist, as thats what i am above anything (other than a musician) and its totally woah.. i was expecting a pile of crap...

also.. another one to blow some of your tiny minds...

christianity as an independant religion didnt exist until around 400 C.E

Jesus was closer to a pharisee than any other group mentioned in the Bible.

Luke and Acts were meant to be one book.

i apologise if any of this was garbled- its 3am and i cant sleep, but if anyone wishes to ask anything along these lines and stuff then please feel free- im thinking about doing my dissertation in Religion and Science fitting together.. so that and the stuff ive already done, and the books i have im a mini walking knowledge base and you just have to ask! (if you wanna ask by PM thats cool too)

Everybody knows he was a real person. Even you don't believe in him as being the son of God there are a lot of proves that he and all the saints existed.

People in that time didn't have surenames. They were simply called X the son f Y.

That's why JESUS BEN JOSEPH...that was his surename.

but was he Jesus ben Joseph? (completely different to ben panthera) that would assume that he was the son of joseph .'. nothing can be substansiated with the theory of a virgin birth (which do happen... just that theyre always girls that are born...) thus disproving christ possibly being the messiah, and thered certainly be no big thing about 'finding' him, cause both jesus and joesph were very common names.. plus its pretty widespread that Jesus, if not of virgin borth was illegitamate which then changes things because they arent called jesus ben _____ in that case....it changes.

ill post my essay notes sometime up on this.....
might be interesting reading.
