I don't see any harm in using emotions to post. What exactly, is the big deal? I'd rather see Choc's posts of emotions than posts doggin' her for using them! Post your emotions away, Choc! I, for one, find them amusing!!!

I'm not trying to stop anyone from using them, just to try and stop them from turning good topics into pages upon pages of them, done for no reason. I just don't like to see good, ineteresting threads get steered off course, and end up with just emoticons.

as i said - both myself and you can stop that though by making people stay on track...

all it takes is a post saying "anyway back on track... (eg) my favourite .... is......"

I suppose so, but they won't always listen.

Maybe peter can give the top 20 - 25 posters certain priveleges, lol. For instance, we could deliver punishments to people who go off topic, or those who insult other people, lol.

Well, I gtg for tonight (I don't have access to my PC all of the time, lol).

It's always good to see how arguments develop overnight when you're not there, isn't it?

I do think the icon are good if you are making a funny comment and you dont want it to be taken wrong. It just gets annoying if you are following a topic and get an email sayings its been updated, whne you get to the topic all there is is a smiling face, its ok sometimes, but it was getting excessive.

I know it seems petty, but I don't mean the use of them, I mean how they lead topics astray, and ruin them.
it's up to you as a poster then to help people get back to the point... in any "real" conversation amongst more than 2 people the subject will go off track... it's no different to on here

Yeah, it's annoying sometimes.....but way low on my list of things to get me bothered. I agree with Mouse....it bothers me that someone says they willed the Twin Towers to fall on 9/11. Smilies don't really bother me.......
