Well that's a big part of the problem - they see a post they've just typed which is far below their abilities, language wise, and they don't think it's rude.

I'm not suggesting that we all have to be perfect all of the time, as most of us will make mistakes from time to time, but when a person never gives any thought to what they are typing, or they use txt speak despite having a full keyboard in front of them, I just think it's rude.

One of my friends always sends me instant messages that look like this:

hey wat r u doin?

I know she's smart - in fact she wants to be a writer and writes extremely well when she has to. And she's not a generally lazy person who wouldn't care what she's typing. So I think she (along with other people maybe) does it because she feels she's "supposed" to write that way online.

I don't treat things that I post online any differently to anything I would in 'real life'. If I want people to read what I'm writing then I do my best to make it clear and concise.

So communicating with other people isn't important to you?

yes but there are different kinds of communications in our different aspects of life.
and i don't think that writing "txt" instead of "text" or not using caps or something like that limits my communication with you.

i voted maybe cause as said above this is a message board, you don't need to be perfect. obviously if u gunna typ an entir post lik thiz i might feel like killing you, but shortening some words or not using capitals is ok as long as it's understandable for everyone. i only think its rude when you type something like "b4", "m8", "cuz", etc because its probably not understandable for someone who isn't very familiar with the language, like me sometimes lol

quite frankly I don't really mind it, nor do I care that much.
But do you think that if these txt speak gets banned or prohibited or whatever, then everyone should stop abreviating the songs names aswell.

I mean, saying, hand instead of have a nice day, KTF instead of Keep the faith, IML, YGLABN etc etc...

Isn't that the same thing??
I don't know, just a thought.

Abbreviations are different on each board. Here it's okay to use abbreviations of song names, because people know what they are. If you go to a Megadeth board and say that YGLABN has a great solo, it wouldn't really work no would it?

And abbreviations in general (the generally accepted ones) are ok in my book, things like LOL, BTW, ROTFL etc. But if you abbreviate every word in your post, that's just stupid.

Very good point. Personally I only tend to recognise a few of the 'main' songs when people do that, but a lot of the time I have no idea which song they mean.
