Default Laptop Screen Problems

i'm having a few problems with my laptop screen and before i send it off to IT at work, i want to know if there's anything i can do to sort it myself. the screenshot below shows the problem:

i'm guessing it's just a connection problem; if so i don't really want to open it up but if anyone else has any suggestions, i'd be very grateful.

EDIT: erm, well the screenshot doesn't actually show the problem.....how daft of me to think it would. basically the bottom third of the screen is just streaked lines meaning i can't see anything.

I was just about tho say that I don't see a problem... It sounds like the TFT-screen's damaged, as the screen capture shows a perfect screen.

Which company did you buy the laptop from? I'm sure if you have a warranty that the company you bought it from can replace the screen. I had to actually do that with another laptop not long ago.

i didn't. the company i work for gives laptops to it's employees. it's recently been upgraded so it shouldn't have problems this early.
