Late Birthday Present
So yesterday I recieved my late birthday present, but let me tell you about the night before. Sunday we left for Salina, Kansas to compete in a college golf tournament when I got severely sick. Migraine headaches, vomiting, stomach problems were persistant throughout that night. I almost had to withdraw because of it. Luckily, I woke up on Monday morning feeling better, and only managed to get 3 hours of sleep. 36 holes, 2 different courses, 95 degree weather... I wasn't going to make it.... So as I was on the range at 7 AM warming up. Still feeling the effects from the night before. I went out with NO expectations. I went through the first round in 30 MPH winds. Note: Kansas is a lot more windy than Oklahoma. I shot a 2 over 72 and thought I shot myself out of the tournament. Another Note: I still wasn't feeling all that well. So the team road over to the second course very gloomy because nobody really played well. So I'm through about 3 holes when my coach comes up and tells me that I was in third after the first round. Couldn't believe it! It really pumped me up to continue the steady play during the second round. I went out and shot two under par on the front nine and was really feeling it. Until, a player in my group had an anxiety attack in the middle of the 10th fairway. An ambulance came out on the course and everything. It was hard to watch it, let alone suck it up and play the rest of the round. Anyways, I go along through my round and on the second to last hole I told my coach that I had a feeling that I needed to birdie one more hole to have a chance. That same hole I stuck a shot to 4 feet and made birdie. On the final hole I made par for a three under round of 68. That's one under par for the whole tournament! When all the scores came in, I ended up winning by one shot! The great thing about it was that the teams we were playing were all a division higher than us. (Essentially that means better players that have more scholarship money.) I beat the home team on their home course. Another cool moment along with this is that it's my second win in 3 starts. I was also recommended for NCCAA Player of The Week which is a HUGE honor! I'm also very very close to making the All-American Team as well. All I need is a Top 10 finish at Nationals for that honor. Next week is the National Tournament and I feel pretty good going into it. I'm confident that I can have a shot at winning this thing. Thanks again for the birthday wishes, I think they paid off!
