We had our exams back in December, so I understand what some of you are going through right now. I just find that with December exams, I feel so rushed. It's a matter of finishing exams, getting home and dealing with all the other stresses that go along with the Christmas season. I've found that since going to university, I am having a heckuva time enjoying the holiday season. I'm worrying about how I did on my exams and at the same time, dreading the new semester. I have a sizeable scholarship from my university which stipulates that I have to maintain an 80 average on a 5 credit course load. I'm the only person in my house who has a full course load.

I still have another year in order to get my degree. I haven't begun to think about if I'm going on to do my Masters. Teachers college is in the future - it is just a matter of when.

To those Jovitalkers who have a disgusting (and by that - a busy) exam schedule, good luck!!! It will all be over soon!

You have to consider the courses he's taking. I guess history has never been especially advanced, a very inductive science..

You are taking history as a major, aren't you Jim? (ooops!)

The man is blessed, what can he do about it?

Seriously though, there are differences between people and their learning abilities, but there are most of all differences between their self-confidences, and that really is what makes people worry more or less for their exams or job interviews.

If you have a lot of both self-confidence and learning capability, then besides possibly coming across as pretentious, you might be a bit too laid back to succeed as much as your potential could lead you to. And that could close some interesting doors. When one thing that matters when you hit the professional world is having the choice, being laid back though talented can be an obstacle and a source of regret.
In the end the not so blessed and stressed hard working student will go as high if not higher than the laid back gifted one.

We've all got our abilities and lack of, as long as you know yourself well enough, from what you want or don't want to what you can or can't do, I think you'll be ok.

Neither. Family is most important to me. What's more important--making money or being close to the people you love? That's the reason I didn't go to an Ivy League college and I'm glad that I didn't because my father dropped dead at the age of 56. I know what my priorities are.

I know this started about moving for a job, but to enlarge the topic, moving is not always for money.
I've travelled all my life, with my parents as a kid, without later on. 2 years in South Africa, 6 years in Scotland, half a year in Argentina, Norway, Germany, Holland and of course France... When moving holds such an important part of your life, it's a bit like a drug. Before leaving France for Canada I had been living 7 years in the same town and had an urge to move just about anywhere as long as it was some place else. I have this periodic need to discover new places, people and cultures, I really feel like a citizen of the world and I want to know the planet where I live. Anyway...
I've always been used to seeing my grand-parents, uncles and cousins about once a year at the most. Since I'm 18, that's about as often as I see my parents and my sister too. I got used to it and them too.

On the other hand my gf lived with her parents until she was 24, and when we came here it was the first time she was outside her hometown for more than three weeks. So she, unlike me, is having a tough time so far from her family. Especially since we're parents ourselves. Because of that we'll move back to France in the next two years. Which I'm ok with because after about 5 years in Canada I'll feel the need to move too .

Anyway, just to say that everyone has a good reason to be where he/she is, and to like it or not. We shouldn't be judgemental (not saying that you are) about people leaving family behind for this or that reason, or for people sacrifying part of their ambitions to stay close to their loved ones.
