Default Living with your Parents

How old were you when you moved out or do you still live with your Parents??? I was watching a programme this morning and they were discussing the fact that more and more people are living at home for longer as its so expensive to move out.

Im trying to save up to move out and am going to start looking round next year. Its difficult when your single though, I suppose I could look at a shared house but thinking about it id not really be any better off than I am now and it would be double the money.

I lived away 1999 - 2002. Now been at home for about a year & a half. But looks like I'll soon be moving out again - not thru choice but thats where the work is taking me.

Housing is expensive & if u rent, it is hard to save up for a desposit. That said there is no substitute for the freedom & independence of living away.

I was 19 when I moved out. I had to because I went to a University in a town 350 kms away. I moved in with my bf-at-the-time, which made the move much easier. I can't really say if I'd moved out if I'd stayed at the same town, but that was never really an option for me. I went back to live at home for 3 or 4 summers, and towards the end it was very clear that two independent women (read: me and my mum) can't live under the same roof for a long time anymore - we almost got a divorce in the end

Living on your own is very expensive - all the expenses you don't even think about, tomatos, toilet paper, furniture/decoration, cleaning equipment and liquids etc... The list is neverending, and on top of that are all the electricity bills etc. But if I had the choice now to move back home, I wouldn't... I've lived too long away on my own, adapting to their home wouldn't work out anymore. But it's always nice to visit, and I will always think of and treat it as my home

I have lived away from home for about 14 months now and not once have I got homesick. That being said I don't treat where I live now as a home. It's funny really because I always think of "home" home as the place I'd rather want to be, but it seems I can only stay there a few days at a time without going insane. Normally I like to go home for birthdays, or occasions such as Christmas, but that's changing for the first time also this year.

I moved out at 20, this summer actually. I had to for the same reason as Laura, although my uni's only 70kms away from my parents house (well hey that's a long way for Dutch standards :P). But I didn't feel like commuting any longer... If I'd chosen to go to uni in Amsterdam, where my parents live, I probably still lived in with them. Finding a place in Amsterdam is pretty much impossible.

I live in a student house now and we pretty much share all the costs, which makes it less expensive. It's not too bad and I have the luck of a very cheap room (while it's still fairly big and clean) compared to most of the people I know.
