Screw it, stay at the Dorchester It's great there

I would take winter(ish) clothes to be honest, but pack some lighter stuff just in case. And take a good bike, cos walking gets boring. The scenery is gorgeous, but repetitive.

which are the worst, most dangerous areas in london?
do you REALLY need to have all private rooms?

i mean if there's 6 of your that means at the very most you'll have half the room, more often than not you'll only have a few others in with you IF the rooms fully booked.

i know hostels seem a pretty daunting and unsavoury option if you've never been to one but ive stayed in one in berlin with my sister and one in riga with my girlfriend in the past 6 months and if they two were fine with it im sure you will be.

if there's any guys in the group i can gaurantee they won't give a shit providing they've got a bed to sleep in.

as for the shared bathroom thing if you were staying in a hotel you'd be "sharing" it with the hundreds of people who have been in there before you. in your house you share it with your family and any guests. in the pub you share it, in uni you share etc... so i don't see why it's such a big issue....

my brother spent a fortune in a hotel in london for aerosmith this weekend when i was booked into a £10 a night hostel 1 block away because his girlfriend didn't want to share a toilet. it just seems ridiculous to me.

if you're going to be so adamant about not sharing a room or bathroom with strangers especially in edinburgh and london you will end up spending a fortune compared to if you were willing to bend a little on your expectations.

Not the nicest areas to stay Edinburgh-wise to be honest. I wouldn't want to go walking out at night anywhere near Gorgie. Not a nice area at all. The Pearl ones are probably your best bet but I wouldn't go for the Glennfiddich rooms and definitely not the Caledonia options as they are on a very quiet backstreet, in a very dodgy area, alongside the very busy West Approach Road.

There's a very nice hostel in Morningside that I have heard good reports of but if your dead-set on not sharing, it probably isn't the best. Check out Pollock Halls of Residence though as they are University of Edinburgh student accommodation that is leased out over the summer holiday months to the public. Private rooms but shared facilities.

how about this one?
"Description
Located on Edinburgh's historic Royal Mile, our one, two and three bedroom self catering apartments provide some of the most central accommodation available, with direct views of St Giles Cathedral. Only minutes away from Edinburgh Castle, our apartments are ideal for exploring the city's historic Old Town. The Royal Mile is the historic stretch of road that runs from Edinburgh Castle down towards Holyrood Palace and the new Scottish Parliament. These apartments booked together may also provide luxurious accommodation for groups up to 24. "

can't find its description on the site cause it's a new apartmnet.
our other choice is the pearl one..

The Royal Mile is a great location - just about as central as you can get and a nice area to boot. If the price is right, I'd definitely recommend that over the apartments listed in the other link.

yup just make sure the place has parking (which i can't see it having) because you won;t be able to park round about there and if you do find a place you'll pay a fortune.
