Surround sound would be different, you'd need an amp and speakers and then just a digital coaxial or digital optical cable to connect the DVD player to the amp.

Unless you have a very expensive TV and DVD player they probably won't have the YUV connections, but they look like this anyway

If your DVD player and TV don't have those it's best to use SCART

So, the old cable is gone?

hmm, I KNOW the box has something to do with the noise. Simply because I didn't have noise problems before I had the box (smart huh?). I assume that while the box is not hooked up to the TV itself, the TV picks up some interference noise (probably due to the built in receiver). Hence, even if the box is unplugged from the TV and turned off, enough 'stuff' is still transmitted to the box to cause this interference. At least that is my theory
I can't imagine, but try if the noise changes while moving the box.

Quote:
Do you think that will get rid of the impedance noise? And why is there such a big money difference? I remember the sales guy saying that if I ever wanted surround sound, I should get this $150 cable. So, there are other alternatives? I'll check it out later this week.
I'm not sure if it's an impedance noise. What noise is it again? Is it some sort of humming?
LOL I don't know what cable this guy meant but you won't get surround sound through a cable, and be it a $1500 one. So please, don't buy a $150 cable. It is irrelevant if you don't have a sound system. We're talking about the picture here (although sound is of course transmitted to your TV, too).

Another thing that comes to my mind is you could check if all plugs are plugged properly!

Don't care about the YUV connection.

I just found this but just over-flew it:

http://www.hdtvsupply.com/acvilinosufo.html

But then again you can watch TV without the noise right? It's only with watching DVDs, right?

Too tired to read all the techno babble, but Spunky, try turning the power off on the one device your not using and turning the TV onto a channel that has only static. Does the interference still show?

If it does, unhook the device (HDTV) completely and try again. Do you see static?

I have a passive scart-switcher, or it's more like a hub actually, but anyway, I can't have my VCR and DVD on at the same time because they interfere with each other. If I turn one off, they work fine.

Ok, maybe it's a European/USA difference....what the hell is SCART?

Usually I'm great at this exact type of problem, but I haven't had the pleasure of working with an HDTV and all that goes with it.

And yes Spunky, I would be fully able to get you hooked up with a sound system.

S-Video is better than those I believe but SCART is the best standard format I think.
Now would you kindly show me where SCART is on the back of my DVD player? You are truly gifted if you find it based on the lil pic provided of it. Yet here we have talk about using SCART for your DVD player which is what made me ask WTF?

Of course you don't get surround sound from a cable, I am not THAT technologically challanged :P What the guy meant was that if you have a surround sound setup you want a better quality cable.

anyway looks like I am stuck with the yellow red white cables till till I get a better DVD player :S

The noise is like feedback noise or just loud 'brrrrlllllrrrrrlll' you know I think it is static.

Yes, I have tried moving the box - though I don't have much room to move it due to the cables not being overly long.

I don't think I have a channel that has only static. I flicked through all of them and there is no in-between channel.
