ah women and technology. So many disasters

JBJ's useless trivia number 3746558: This part of Glasgow was the 1st in the UK to get fibre optic cable installed for cable telly and phones back in the 80s for trials. I have absolutely no idea why

No SCART? Hmm.

Well, but you have the YUV component connections. It is signed as Y, Pr, Pb. It is the green, red and blue sockets.
It seems your DVD has those as well. I would use those although I can't promise it will stop the noise.

Now, again regarding your problem.

What is it that is plugged to the left YUV panel?
The two brighter plugs in this 5-field, the one with the white and th other with the red ring, they are audio. Where do they go?

Then there is one free, and then there are the two composite panels (yellow/red/white).
What is plugged to them? What's left? Whats's right?

-------

Also, is there any constellation now where you don't get this noise or anything the changes it's sound or effect?
Try to eliminate all possibilities.

the five piece constellation goes directly to the HDTV box.

the one to the left is the dvd player and the one to the right is my xbox.

I am now officially giving up. I unplugged everything from the box and still had the problem. I then also unplugged the wall piece where the cable comes in and it still had that problem. I am starting to think that the box might not be my problem, and the onset with HDTV was just incidental??

But you originally said it was just while watching DVD. Is it all of the time now?

Is there any other (new) device near your TV/DVD that might cause EMI?

Above the two YUV panels, what is it there? Does it say DVI?
Does your HDTV box have such a thing as well?

That was my suspicion, that SCART is a European thing cuz it wasn't making sense. My other guess was it was specific for HDTVs. But I knew we definately don't have them on our DVD players.

Further on...

I'd try to link your DVD with a YPrPb cable (like your HDTV box), since it is probably better shielded than the yellow composite video. I can't guarantee improvement but it is at least a rather cheap trial.

I don't know whether there is anything of impotance but maybe you wanna have a look:

Spunky, does the DVD work if it's the only thing connected to the TV?

It is definitely not specific for HDTV, but you are right. The USA and Japan seem to be about the only places where it is not used.

Ugh...I swear you guys are trying too hard, but at least you are trying. The solution is simpler, not shielded cable or using this type or that type of plug. It's over-complicating the issue.

And no, Spunky...it's not not likely to be incidental. Something was changed during the Cable Install. He actually shouldn't have left without making sure all was done correctly.
