Not everything said or asked was to solve the problem. I need to understand her setup in the first place.

You're over-doing it. Simply test if the DVD works without the HDTV in between. If it does, it's the box or the connections to it.

BP, shielded cable won't work if the interference will show up even when HDTV isn't on.

Yeah, I know I'm over-doing. But that's what I am trying to get out of her. I asked to eliminate all possibilities. Un- and re-plugging all devices and test on each step if or where it works.
When all she says is I tried everything and nothing worked, I only can ask again what exactly she tried and what exactly didn't work.

But you originally said it was just while watching DVD. Is it all of the time now?
No, only when watching DVD. Actually, I listened to some CDs and there seems to be no interference noise when listening to CDs (though there might be a little if I turn the volume up too much)

Is there any other (new) device near your TV/DVD that might cause EMI?
No.

Does your HDTV box have such a thing as well?

I'll try that tonight. When I unplugged the box, I left the plugs in the TV. Tonight, I'll remove everything except the DVD player.

Darn thing.

You are right, but he is the cable guy after all It didn't even occur to me that the DVD player would be a problem since it worked before.

Also, he installed my internet connection and that didn't work for about a week and then it magically started to work.

Like I said, tonight, I am going to try to work only the DVD player and nothing else hooked up. Also, I am going to try several different DVDs - already tried 2, so I don't think it is the DVD.

The noise is worst when I have the initial menu of the DVD - you know before you select and press play.

I assume the HDTV thing streams into the house. He had to activate it - does that mean it isn't always there? Like when I had basic cable, was there still the HDTV frequency, I just couldn't get to it?

****er took my TV cable so I can't go back and try it the old way.

I could be totally wrong here, the images are a little blurry but it looks as if you have the right channel audio cable on your DVD player plugged into one of the YUV ports (red green blue)

Since you have those on your DVD player and TV it would be best to get a cable and use them rather than the component aux ones

I tried to sharpen it a little, it does look like you have plugged the red/right audio cable into the red YUV input. I'd guess that having the audio cable into the image output channel is what causes the noise.

Obviously I can't see what other inputs those cables may be hiding but since you have the spare inputs on your TV you'd be better to buy a cable and use the YUV instead.

do you mean that the red cable should go into the red opening to the right of it? I'll check it later when I am at home and read what it says.

what exactly do you mean? I can't make out the YUV plug on the TV or the DVD player :S and is that what I'll be asking for? A YUV cable?
