oops. I didn't even see that.

I have 852 x 480 pixels and a 16.9 aspect ratio.

As for that cable thing - I saw the top of the line is $199. I am going to try to find a link, so you can exactly see why it is apparently so much better.

I am speechless, Maria. :P
LOL. The guy at the store told me he always wanted a girlfriend with a plasma TV and if it wasn't against store policy he'd ask me out lol. Then he asked me if I am going to watch corny chick flicks on it and I told him I hardly ever watch TV or movies. He gave me a very weird look, then I told him it's mostly to watch rock concerts. LOL. My son doesn't want to go back to his Dad's house, cause Dad doesn't have a cool TV like Mom does

Seriously, I just expected you got it because of some regional changings. Here, for example, some areas almost HAVE TO change their receiving setups to be able to watch TV, without actually taking advantage of the better quality due to "old" tellies.
I see. Here we'd still have digital, I guess digital is better than regular cable (?), yet if you want a lot of stations, you gotta go digital. However, you don't have to go to HDTV. Sometimes, they have specials and the price is the same, so then you just get some added channels and I think a better sound with HDTV.

However, I for one would definitely go for the YUV connection, like Neil suggested.
Well, I did get new cables. The top of the line cables are $199 , but I got some for $50 (I know you'd say that is too much :P). Will the quality/type of cable also affect the sound? (as I am listening to cds through my dvd player).

I couldn't find the link with the top of the line cable, but here is a link to some cable that is $129 --- what is so good about them? http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1051806324157

As far as I know the YUV splits the image into the component colours (Red, Green and Blue) whereas the cables you used before had one cable to transport the whole image. The cables themselves are higher quality too I think so they can transport the data faster, and more of it at once, which is why it's good for DVD/HDTV.

I don't hate TV. There is just nothing on that I want to watch. Plus, if I watch, my son thinks he's got TV rights too and then we've got big arguments, etc.... so, I just avoid the whole thing. Besides, I just don't have the time to even watch stuff in the first place.

But what's the difference? So, I don't watch TV and not a lot of movies, but I have live shows running in the background - they look awsome on my TV why would that be a waste of money? Oh, and playing Xbox on it is much cooler too lol.

I rather meant that even you start with technical blah now. :P

No, I won't. I don't own a YUV cable myself, so I don't know what is an ok price. I was only talking about SCART prices.

No, it won't. The YUV cable is only for the picture. Remember, there are 5 cables from your HDTV box to your TV, 3 for the YUV connection and 2 (red/white) for audio. You will need just the same for your DVD/TV connection. But you can use the old connection for audio, just leave the yellow plug unplugged (that is the picture plug).

Like I said, I don't own one myself. But high density double-shielding, gold contacts etc. sounds good. Also: "This connection delivers the best picture for DVD viewing." which is what I have been saying.

Not true. The colours of the cables are irritating here. It does not transmit RGB, it transmits YUV and that is:

the luminance signal Y = 0.3 * Red + 0.59 * Green + 0.11 * Blue

and the colour difference signals
for Red U (Cb/Pb) = - 0.17 * Red - 0.33 * Green + 0.5 * Blue
and for Blue V (Cr/Pr) = 0.5 * Red - 0.42 * Green - 0.081 * Blue
