Default Man Stuck Searching Train's Toilet for Cellphone

Hahaha..I thought this was funny.

The Bronx-WABC, October 31, 2003) — An embarrassing mishap delayed the Thursday evening commute for riders on a Metro-North train on Thursday. A man dropped his cell phone into a toilet in the train's restroom, and then tried to get it back.

Joe Veniscofski, Foreman: "I have never, in my 16 years on the railroad, seen anything like this. This is the first."

And Veniscofski may well hope that it's also the last.

Joe Veniscofski: "He had to stick his hand inside of that loose splash guard, into the holding basin. And that's when it got caught."

By the time the 6:38 train, filled with rush hour commuters, arrived at the Fordham station, Metro-North and city fire crews were there. And they had to cut 41-year-old Edwin Galler out of a stainless steel toilet to free him.

Albert Cecere, Facilities Director: "So they had to remove that to free his arm. And the damage to the cover you saw before."
Tim Fleischer: "What about the phone?"
Albert Cecere: "We did not recover the phone. I don't know if he did or not."

At Edwin Galler's Bronx home, no one immediately answered the door. But a family member did come out later, clearly not wanting to talk.

And there was plenty of excitement when neighbors who'd heard the story found out Edwin was involved.

Mildred McGee, Neighbor: "The amount of money you pay for these things ... I'm sure he didn't know it was that far down, you know, for him to get his hand stuck. So if you see it go down, you put your hand down to try to get it and it probably just disappeared."

Katherine Nash, Neighbor: "I said to myself, now who would do anything like that and get stuck?"

The Metro-North Railroad doesn't think it's a laughing matter. That train car has been out of service for two days. It is also going to cost the railroad several thousand dollars, and they've had to deal with the angry commuters who were late for home last night.

OK, am I the only one here thinking that I wouldn't stick my hand in the toilet to get back a phone?

LOL!!!

I would have forgotten about the phone. Anyway, I could never have put it to my ear ever again.

you can see how stupid it is though. U drop ur phone down a public shitter and u leave it to go on it's merry way and when someone says they're going to chop you up over an argument over a phone u stop arguing.

That is kinda gross...I wouldn't touch the phone again. I don't care how expensive it was or how much Lysol you spray on it...not happening!
