What about the people who truly need the money though? You can't let them starve because of a few rotten apples. There are people who genuinely want to work but can't get a job so what else is there for the but to live off benefits?

It's a really tough matter.

If there is somwthing really wrong with a person or if they are actually looking for work then i think it's ok for them to live off benefits. I think it's wrong when people see that they can get more money through benefits than they can from working and so they just can't be bothered to look for work.

What I meant is, it's too difficult to determine who's willing to work but unable to find a job and meanwhile living off benefits as they're entitled to do and who's just spending their days doing nothing and living off benefits because it's easier. They can always pretend they're looking for a job or something. It's not easy.

Of course once they appear on a paper saying openly how cheeky they are - then I'd cut their benefits straightaway

well I saw once a program on tv, about two mom switches from familie, and one was really clean, worked, had enough money raised kids and one was really poor and didnt had a job, lazy kids and stuff, well after the switched a lot had been changed, they were searching jobs and stuff, so that was pretty cool, they just had to see how it could also be

People should get less in benefits and the money should be spent on education and people like that midwife who taught them how to look after the baby.
This is what I was saying too, and I agree. I agree it's a difficult thing to assess who actually slag off and who are unable to find work. But then again, government replacement programs etc should be supported, and also from employees part - those who want, will go to program, will be replaced in a job and those who won't job after that will get benefits. But that's beside the point - I'm not a politician and will never want to be...

And Jim, I didn't mean that the society makes the people like that - it just doen't do much to try to get them out of that. I meant that for example for these two girls, their environment made it easy for them to fall victims to that. I know a lot of people rise above their environment, but most people can't for one reason or another, and this is what happens. So in effect it's their environment, that is the family and surroundings in which they were brought up in, which resulted in all this, with all certainty. Not saying someone from Glasgow, or in this case Blackpool, can't do well, or can't not fall pregnant, of course they can... But blaming them or calling them scum isn't the answer - if you'd seen the program yourself, you'd seen just how clueless these people really were.

I saw most of the programme and the point I was makign was that the vast majority of people growing up in schemes might not exactly be upstanding pillars of the community (myself included) but they don't fall anywhere near the extremes you saw there in most cases and that's because some people are genuinely pieces of scum with no work ethic or self respect.

Smoking a fag in front of your babies pram isn't a result of your environment, it's a result of being a total ****wit.
