Mind reader?
I've been trying to work out how they do it, I can't figure this one out.

I figured it out, sorta. Which ever numbers you choose, it's the same shape that you end up with. Maybe someone good in Mathematics can explain that, but it goes so that numbers 1, 3, 9, 27... are the same shapes, and those are the ones that you end up with no matter what.

say 'a' represents the first digit and 'b' the second...

each number will be like 10*a + b
for example 89 = 10*8 + 9

then you contract ( a + b ) -> 10*a + b - (a + b)

so with the example it becomes 10*8 + 9 - (8 + 9) = 72

if you work the 10*a + b - (a + b) out you'll get:
10*a + b - (a + b) = 10*a + b - a - b = 10*a - a = 9*a

so you'll always end up with 9 times the first digit
all the multiples of 9 have the same sign, which is also the one that appears in the crystal ball... :P

Here is a rather condensed, simpler explanation (I figured it out...hooray for me!)

Looking at the chart, one can deduce that there is only a limited number of answers (for instance, you could never reach 99). Now, like in the above, lets suppose the possible answer is represented by the variable a. Now, the highest a you can reach is 81. Lets suppose 81 corresponds with the "$" symbol. If you look through the list of all the $ symbols, you will realize that these are the only possible answers. Each time you refresh the game, the symbols change, but the symbol by a is always constant.

After a while, if you wrote down every answer you got, you'd eventually find that there would be a lot of repeats (the a's), but that would take a while. So, for your convenience, I supplied the above.

But I must admit, that was pretty creepy at first.

Thanks for explaining Sara and XRds1Bnce16, because all i knew was that it had something to do with the nines and always getting a certain answer...but i couldn't deduce what was happening.
