*???*

Of all the terrorists I've seen on TV, I don't think any of them wore a veil? Am I incorrect on this? Do you have different sources?
Hi Spunky,

We are not dictated by one religion and freedom of speech is allowed and I think we should be proud of this, however when freedom of speech can potentially cause a dangerous situation then this freedom must be reviewed.

There a many women suicide bombers who have blown people up , they have worn veils. The male terrorists do not wear veils to blow people up but choose to cover their faces with scarves, masks. Some terrorists make their escape as dressing as a women using a veil, I actually wonder how many have got into countries via this manner also.

the suicide bombers in london wore tracksuits and trainers....

it's not like you can use a veil to hide a bomb....

as for your response to my previous post re: other countries not allowing people to pray. i'm not arguing this and it's an incredibly stupid and prejudiced thing to do, why lower ourselves to that standard? they do it so why shouldn't we is a very juvenile way to go about running a country.

yesterday i read about a female BA flight stewardess being reprimanded for wearing a crucifix with her uniform and refusing to cover it up, what do you think about this?

On 15th dec I will be moving into South-Africa, while I live in Holland at the moment, so that's gonna be a bit of a different county.
Anyways, I'm looking forward towards it, but at the same time, I'm selling all my stuff (incl my house!) and gonna leave all m friends behinds, so it's getting a bit harder...

...Thesedays..Good luck with your move!

Yes people shoule be should be free to wear whatever they choose...along as it's not very offensive... People will have different levels of what they find very offensive... For me it would be anything that is anti-human. ie National Front.

It's really sad that the air hostess was told to cover her cross and very wrong...People should not be offened by someones faith or intimidated by it. There is alot of ignorance when it somes to faith and what it represents. I met a woman (So called educated, well bred, middle class) who would not give to the eathquake disaster on the Pakinstan border because they were terroists. That was a year ago and her ignorance still makes me so angry.

The courses for people entering a new country seem a really good idea...especially for people coming from very different cultures. Help them to understand local customs and values.

I do not find burqas offensive, I find them a little scary...a bit on the lines of the grim reaper! But I'm dealing with it and getting used to it! But maybe if the women wearing them were aware of the effect such an outfit may have on westerners, they may be willing to take of the veil part to be seen as being more approachable and welcoming.

Just read this morning, in Holland they are trying to ban burqas. mmmmm

why exactly? do they really want to escalate underlying tensions?

i don't think anyone would argue that the english banning the speaking of gaelic and wearing of kilts and tartan after the 2nd jacobean uprising in scotland was a good idea and that was an armed uprising against the english. what exactly have muslims done to constitute this?

I have a strong opinion on this and for the most part I agree with Jack Straw. I think people who move to another country should at least respect that it is a different culture and also respect that if they are to maintain their own culture, then they are going to be restricted as to what sort of work they can do. I know it is discrimination to say that somebody can't be a teacher because they wear a veil, but if that then means that they can't communicate properly it results in the children not getting a proper education. There is one thing that annoys me even more than this though, and it's the lazy bastards that come to the country and get everything for free. The government is giving immigrants way to much lattitude and many of them are taking advantage of it and abusing the system. Many of them claim the benefits for being unemployed or unable to work due to some sort of illness or injury, and they have part time jobs that are paid cash in hand so they don't pay any taxes. This country is deteriorating, and fast!

It wasn't a good idea and I think history has proven that. Human nature being what it is - if it's forbidden - it's only more attractive. The only area that I would insist on is in the matter of driver's licenses and ID cards. There is not much point in taking a picture for identification when someone has a veil over their face. Other than that - wear what you want.

So, if you go on holiday to Spain, do you suddenly start speaking Spanish, because it's 'their country, their rules'? No. You speak your own native langaue, wherever you happen to be in the world. Why should it be any different?
