Ah yes, but if theyre only talking to one-another behind the counter, is it that important? As long as they serve you in English, then I don't see a problem. I have yet to go to a local chip-shop, where they do not speak one single word of English.

Isn't it rude to go to another country and expect them to speak your language?

Since last year people (foreign) that gonna live in Holland, get their tempory papers for a year, and they have to proof (with tests) that they learned the Dutch language & dutch general stuff in order to get their permanent papers.

And that is the way it should be. Because of all the different nationalities that live here we always had communication-problems, a lot.
Lots of people only able to talk Turkish or whatever country they original from...

I know it is discrimination to say that somebody can't be a teacher because they wear a veil, but if that then means that they can't communicate properly it results in the children not getting a proper education. There is one thing that annoys me even more than this though, and it's the lazy bastards that come to the country and get everything for free. The government is giving immigrants way to much lattitude and many of them are taking advantage of it and abusing the system. Many of them claim the benefits for being unemployed or unable to work due to some sort of illness or injury, and they have part time jobs that are paid cash in hand so they don't pay any taxes. This country is deteriorating, and fast!
It is easy though to scape goat immigrants, however and I'm sure there are a greater percentage of native people that scrounge off the system. That's not to mention that there is still discrimination in the work place. Many of the immigrants that come here don't even get a choice about coming here, but they make the most of it.

I actually agree with Jack Straw, I do find people who have their faces covered up somewhat intimidating however it is just an opinion, you can't start telling people what to wear or we'll all become like the people in Star Trek. If you are teaching kids however you aren't going to be very effective without any visible facial expressions.

There is a lot of sniping going on at the moment between 'muslims' & 'non-muslims' mostly by people who really don't have anything better to do & are developing chips on their shoulders for no good reason.

If everyone just got on with their lives, respecting how other people live we'll all be a lot happier.

Again, how exactly does one conclude that wearing a veil has any connection to our safety? Where? How? What? Think ... think... think .... don't just regurgitate what some blind hate mongers spit out...

There a many women suicide bombers who have blown people up , they have worn veils. The male terrorists do not wear veils to blow people up but choose to cover their faces with scarves, masks.
In your country? In the UK? Not what I read in the news. As Jim stated, they wore tracksuits.

If you are referring to the suicide bombers in the middle east. Why of course many of them wore veils. It's their dress code! I bet most of them were also dark haired and spoke Arabic. Perhaps we should disallow people to have dark haircolor - maybe that would keep us safer? It's a rather short sighted and unsophisticated conclusion (mildly put) and the propagation of such biased and unfounded relationships is nothing less than racism.

Perhaps we should not allow women to walk about in public without a male relative on their side to assure women don't blow up our office building? Seems like a logic you might agree with?

Does Holland have different dialects in their country? In Germany the different dialects are so strong and severe that, if people want to, they can speak in their dialect and a person from a different part of the country will not understand what the person said. Would you find that intimidating as well? What about German speakers in Holland. Would you oppose them using their native tongue as well? English people? Or is it only a certain culture/nationality you would rather not be able to talk to each other without you and everyone else to be able to understand what they are saying?
