Me too! The Australian government is currently suggesting that immigrants know a basic amount of English when moving to this country and I think that it is fair enough, too. If people never try and learn the language or feel that they have no need to, naturally it is easier to just stick to what they know, but unfortunately, they do become a bit segregated from society. When they insist on clinging to only their own culture, the natives almost become offended by the fact that the country that these 'foreigners' live in, isn't deemed good enough by the fact that they have refused the new culture, so to speak.
I'm seeing things from the other side, to a degree. Today I had a job interview completely in German, for the possibility or starting work next year when I come back to Germany to see out my visa. To cut a long story short, I survived, though there were one or two hairy moments when I had almost no idea of what was said. Still, I get the standard trial that any other employee at Subway (lol) gets, so it went as well as possible. Not much of a job in itself, I know, but given I have only studied the language part-time over 12 months, it was a pretty big deal to get through that today. Yay!
