I know it all depends on the situation, but just in general, which is the better way to listen to music?

I'd say speakers for two reasons....

a) headphones at high volumes really hurt my ears, or at least, if I watch a Music Vid playing it very loud, my ears will hurt for at least the next day.
b) You can't feel the music rubble under your feet.

However, headphones are better for recording, as the actual sound is more precise.....

In a way headphones are better, certainly something like Dark Side Of the Moon isn't as impressive through speakers, but then, for the precision in sound, you loose the feel, and power of the music. That's what I've found anway....

Headphones are great for if you want to play music increadibly loud at 4 in the morning

It all depends on what you're listening to, where you are, and how good your equipment is. If you have high quality speakers, then thats cool, but some headphones really can hurt your ears. I can't stand the tiny inner ear ones, they hurt.

Even with speakers, I think there is a maximum volume beyond which it isn't music, it's just noise.

BJ are a "wall-of-sound" nowadays does it matter how loud the volume is or whether you're using good equipment?

The equipment can make all the difference. My current PC speakers are old portable speakers, and they sound horrible (I really should buy some new ones), but when I play music through my DVD player, it can play it using Pro Logic II, which plays it through 6 channels.

This sounds really good, even though my system is a pretty cheap one.

Ahhhh..speakers. This way everyone in the house can suffer, I mean enjoy, the music I am playing.

Actually I just like the sound of speakers better.

i know that - i'm saying the last 2 albums volume doesn't matter... if i listen to NJ loud is just as good an album as it would be quiet... the opposite for last 2 albums
