Becky lost data because she did a system recovery, not because of a HD failure. Because Windows recomended using the system restore the fault was probably in Windows' registry, usually such things are caused by viruses of users themselves.

But how come a data can be lost using system recovery?. I'm more intrested in knowing what kind of date she lost there..

System recovery installs Windows, but doesn't preserve the settings, profiles etc. Windows had before.

Yes but i still don't think it will delete the any data (unless its been formated in a process) other then windows and all other software which was installed before... I meant to say data like some document files, music files, picture.. stuff like save files... I dont think its gonna lose unless it has some problem with hard disk.

Linux power !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :P :P :P :P :P

I'd just like to say a little something, people i see with pc problems don't know must of the time that their problems can caused sometimes just by malwares/spywares etc .... spybot is free and simple to use, as many others, pestpatrol, hijackthis etc etc ..... (Jovitalk is an infection for pc !!!) Same for defrag, people never do it ! diskeeper it's excellent !

I'm not saying that Becky's problem was about that but i'm just saying this in general.
As ice said, about Becky's problem, depends of what the error was but can be lots of things like HD, RAM, virus etc etc .... a recovery is a good thing to do first anyway in general .... worth a try.

If it happens again try to remember what it is Becky and if it's possible a screen would help. But for now, scan it with a good antivirus online like ravantivirus (continue without suscribing/scan my pc) and test your ram .... (if it's the same word in english ) and a hijackthis would be a good idea

Diskeeper takes control of your whole machne, it automatically starts every time you reboot and tries to make you buy it. At least if you have the freeware version. I put up with it for a week and the deleted the shit.

I think spyware was my problem. I have the Ad-Aware thing and am making a point to run it every day.

Every day is overkill, once a week is fine. But make sure you also use some other spyware removal program, like Spybot or Microsofts tool. Ad-Aware doesn't catch all the spyware.

NO, I don't need it. I do my tweaking by hand. And yes, you will see a difference, if you know what you're doing.
