Mike: Monitor problems do not cause beeps.

The number of the beeps can sometimes tell you what's wrong. But it depends on the model, so I'm not 100% sure.

Sounds like the manual power cut broke something inside the computer, probably the hard disks or the video adapter. Also the keyboard cable might be loose.

If the CD drive opens, the problem isn't with power supply, but are all the fans (power supply, CPU cooler etc.) running? Have you tried turning your monitor on before switching the machine on? Does anything show on screen?

If it's a new computer with warranty still on I suggest taking it to a Compaq service. I think I read something about on-site - warranty, but I'm not sure.
