Default my guitar got its first ding today

yup after nearly a year of gigging recording and playing on my G and L legacy, it got it's first ding . i dunno how it happened and it's pretty small but u've got to start somewhere and nothing looks better than a strat thats been banged up over the years (none of this bought from the shop crap)

if any of u know who G&L r u'll probably think im a dick for wanting it to get banged up cos they aren;t exactly cheap or production line guitars but i blagged this one off of a sales guy (who didnt realise who they were or how much they are worth) for under £300 with a case and u can't even buy high end epi's for that over here.

any of u got any dings or scratches on ur gear?

My husband is a musician (bass guitar) and he has plenty of dings and scratches on his many quitars from his 15 years of gigs. One whole room in our house is dedicated to his musical equipment. He even has names for his guitars.

a guitar rooms definetely high in priorities for my house when i move out.

don't have a name for this particular guitar, seems that when i want to name a guitar i need to put effort into it and really think about it which i can't be bothered doing and kinda defeats the sponatnuity (sp) of it.

I've got a strat with a couple of blemishes!! A bit of the scratchplate has snapped off from where I used to keep a plectrum handy. It looks really cool cos the black layer from underneath shows through there now. I've also got a burn mark on the top of the body from where my mate was playing with a lighter after a somewhat stoned jam session!!

p.s. Beaten up strats are the greatest!!!

dunno if this counts but my epi sg got a chunk took off the body when a clock that was hanging above it fell ontop of it. instead of letting it stay like that i decided to set about it with some blue and ilver spraypaint. lets face it anything apart from tele's and strats looks stupid beat up.

wasnt exactly wot id call a pro job but it would look pretty cool if i hadnt went over all the hardware and pickups with silver spraypaint giving it a nice plasticy look :-S

any guys into ur pedals should check out tone-jam.com found it the other night and the stuff sounds pretty cool. not sure if id send my dirt boxes over to him to get done up but ive got the boss equaliser and for someone to mod it for $35 which is less than i paid for a meal last night (see takeaway post) and u can';t really argue with it can u?

it's all or nothing. a few little scratches looks shit and i always try to buffer it up if i can but a nice, aged, and completely bashed up strat (aka hendrix burnt in fire) looks fabulous.

i did a little bit of modification on my old tele once. well, not really, i just took the scratch plate off and roughed it up a bit but it looked cracking.

i wudnt put any scratches or anything on my g and L in particular cos it is my baby and its worth alot more than i paid for it so i still look after it well but its going to get scratches and dings sooner or later cos i play so much and do som much gigging, recording and stuff that usually leads to guitars getting smacked around so im not too bothered bout it getting beat up.

anyone ever smashed a guitar? our bass player had one of those little encore beginner guitars that he traded to our old singer for 2 cans of coke cos it was broke and he didnt play the guitar anymore anyways. so my mates got it and is smashing it sideways (as in along the edge of the body) against a shop wall (much to the annoyance of the shop owner as u can imagine) so hes sitting here wondering y his guitar wont break then a girl he was kind aseeing at the time walks by so he goes over to "talk" to her and asks me to hold and it says "don't break it ill be back ina minute" and im like aye right WHACK smashed it face first off the ground into pieces.
