This has not been a normal Friday for me. I did get up and go to work this morning, feeling lousy, but went anyway. Half the office has or is getting a stomach virus so my boss sent me home mid-day.
This morning some county workers cut down 4 trees on the bank by the road in front of my house and they piled them in the pasture across the raod to burn them.
When I came home, the fire had creeped out quite a bit and was spreading throughout the pasture. Mind you, it's not a panic-inducing blazing inferno, just a creeping grass fire--enough to be concerned, not enough to call in the fire dept. It's quite a ways from my house to "across the road" because my yard is 10+ acres. If it was on the same side of the road as my house, I would have been worried, but it was far from any buildings and moving slowly. It rained for the last 7 days straight, so I'm sure the county workers didn't think it would spread at all since the ground is so wet.
I called the superviser to let him know the fire got out and then picked up a case of bottled water and a cat litter bucket and filled it with water and went down to the pasture to put out some of the edges myself before it got to to any of the trees around the field.
Remember the wet ground? I didn't. I got my truck stuck in the mud.

The supervisor got here within 10 minutes or so and he helped put out the other edges. But instead of helping me get my truck unstuck, he got HIS stuck too. LOL
I don't think this is what my boss had in mind when she told me to "go home and rest."
