Sigh. It's a sign of the times.
Yeah, me too! But the lawyer's attitude was "just don't risk it." He's a VERY good lawyer and his interest is the district, not the people who work for the district. He basically made it sound like if questions were raised, the individual with the account wouldn't have any power to fight it.

Interesting point, I wonder if that could be applied to other fields as well. Me being an accountant, I wonder if my myspace could be used against me. I have people on it from work and we talk about work stuff, although nothing in specifics that others would understand.

Isn't there a thing on mysace that allows you to make your page private? So that you actually have to add people for them to be able to view your page.

Basically only your friends can see your page. Is that not allowed?

My bro is training to be a teacher and he was told that he couldn't use myspace.... but is allowed to use facebook for some bizarre reason. It's pathetic that this is what the world is coming too!

I don't have a myspace account, but I thought that was unreasonable. What if I wanted to have one to keep in contact with friends/family and it had nothing to do with anyone from work? He told us about several cases where people have been FIRED for having a Myspace account! One teacher was fired because she had a photo of herself holding a drink at a holiday party and there were kids in the background. UNBELIEVABLE. But true.

Lizz, I thought you might find that info interesting since you're a teacher. You might need to check to see if your district has a policy about personal myspace accounts. Apparently some districts have the official opinion that even if you don't invite your students, they'll find you, thus establishing an inappropriate relationship. Also, never give your cell phone number to a student and NEVER text message a student. You'll eventually be accused of being a pedophile, it seems.

I'm glad most of the students only see me once and never have a reason to contact me. That's some freaky stuff.
Scary stuff. I know that my district doesn't have a policy that prohibits it. There are actually quite a few other teachers on there with myspace accounts with their pics on it. I DO NOT have any pictures of myself on there and I will not be putting any on there at any point because you never know who is on there looking at them. I don't have my page set to private yet but that may be a good idea to do so.

It is amazing to me that teachers would be dumb enough to give out their cell phone number or text a student!! Why would someone actually do that?!?!

The all request hour, the girl in the front row has just asked for Blood on Blood, ok, Merry Christmas young lady!" Amazing <3

Back in the dark ages when I was in school teachers used to give out their home phone numbers. They told us (especially those of us in advanced math classes) that if we worked longer than an hour on a math problem to call them so we didn't beat our brains for nothing.

Times sure have changed. Teachers have gone from protecting their students to protecting themselves.

when I was in High School I was having problems with Geometry class (yes, I have never been good at math) and the teacher arranged a meeting for me to go to her house so she could tutor me and help me with the class because she was afraid that I would fail and since that was the only class where I was having troubles she didn't want to keep me from going to a worthwhile University.

So I did And I passed the class, nice teacher. Without that help I maybe wouldn't have passed the class. If she only knew what she was risking when she did that. lol

And that was 3 years ago.
