I've never been to NJ, but what I've seen/heard on here, it sounds like a great place. I'd love to visit someday

I hate it when people give places a bad name without visiting for themselves. Most people back in Scotland think that Argentina is some sort of hell-hole and rapist/drug heaven, but the truth is that it's one of the most beautiful places in the world, with such generous and kind people

You mean there were race riots outside the South? (Fake sarcasm)

I think most cities get worse as time goes on. Jackson used to be a nice little city. Now I wouldn't go to most places during the day, much less at night.

This may sound like an odd question, but is it true that self-serve gas stations are illegal in New Jersey? I heard it from a friend and am having trouble believing it.

Yup - true There is a law on the books saying you can't pump your own gas. Moving back here from California (where I always pumped my own) was so nice. The gas prices are cheaper than California and someone else does all the work - in the rain - in the snow - you get the picture. I don't really know what the reason is though.

Incidentally...the same law is in Oregon.

When I left....Gas was already at 2 bucks a gallon in California. When I went to Jersey...it was $.99....no getting out of my car in the cold..just hand them the cash or the card and they do it all. I was in heaven.

Even at a $1.40 in Brooklyn where I lived, it was a relief...though over there...you self-serve and they also disable those clips in the pumps that hold the squeeze handles up..so you have to hold it the whole time with your hand to keep pumping.
