Ok I'll bite - WTF is mdf?

My house is is about 110 years old with a stone/brick foundation. The siding is cedar which is rot and insect proof.

MDF = Medium Density Fibreboard, it is basically sawdust compacted and glued to make new "wood", used greatly here on DIY tv shows for a cheap alternative to real wood.

Nah - this house is way too old for that. The walls are almost 1 foot thick with about an inch to two inches of lath and plaster inside. The studs are real 2 X 6s and they have lateral bracing and 1X sheathing of solid wood. My expert opinion as an engineer is that it would talk more than one wolf to huff and puff and blow this house down We occasionally get hurricanes this far north - not too often - but we have never had a wind problem either. The columns are the original solid wooden ones, with attachments to the upper floors upgraded to modern steel ties by me

It will certainly last longer than I will - and it already has.

hehe, apologies.

i watched some random programme where they build houses for people in the US when theirs has been burnt down, flooded etc and they just put up giant wooden panels. they look beautiful but you have to question their sturdiness in high winds.
