I expected that after the death of Princess Diana there would have been some sort of laws enforced to stop paparazzi following people like that, but it seems there wasn't. I really don't know how there isn't a law against having your photo published without your consent in a magazine or tabloid newspaper, does anyone know the laws regarding this?
i'm not totally up on the law so don't quote me on this one but when you appear on telly you need to sign a waver form basically saying you agree to you being on film and it being broadcast.

i'm pretty sure the same exists for pictures. what one must bear in mind is that there's lots of cases of "celebs" taking photographers and papers to court for taking a publishing photos of them that they dont want ie snorting lines at a party, having sex somewhere public etc... you get the idea that if you dont want them published, you can do somethign about it even if it's just recieving damages after theyve been released.

now i'm assuming what happens is that if the person doesnt explicitly make a case against the publication of photos then the courts wont stop the publishing of them so if big brother contestant X doesnt take hello to court for snapping them coming out of starbucks then no one really gives a shit.

you also have to take into account that alot of these shots you see in magazines are staged by the persons management.

In the US, one can take photos of anybody in the public and do with it as they seem fit. There really isn't a way around it, considering that people (private citizens) take millions of photos each day, often with other people in it as well. It would be unpractical for every person having to get consent of some passersby to be on a picture. Often even impossible.

Think about all the pictures you've taken in your lifetime and all the strangers in it - do you think you should have gotten consent from every single one of th em? Once you have taken those pics, there is no way to control what will happen to those pictures. You could sell them to magazines/newsstations for advertisments/reports, etc. YOu could post them on your personal website to show where you went on vacation and so forth.

You go out of your house, you can have your face on TV the next day - your risk for leaving the house.

TV is different because it is not a shot of someone walking down the street. No waiver is needed for clips of people walking down the road being photographed/taped. If you do enter a studio, you'll sign a waiver --- just like you do when you go to a professional photographer - those are not public areas.

Nobody has won a courtcase because their picture was taken while they were walking down the road. The only time courtcases were won is if the pics were taken via infringing property/trespassing laws.

the reason contestant X doesn't sue hello is because there is no law against taking a picture of someone exiting a starbucks. How would one conduct TV news if you can never have a person in a clip???

I agree, of course it is impractical to get permission for photographs of crowds, but when a specific person is targetted it is different because you can take a photo of a city center and obviously not avoid getting people in your shot, and the quality would be so low that people wouldn't care anyway about appearing small in the bottom of a shot, but to aim your camera and zoom into a specific person with the intent of doing that, I believe, is wrong, and should be made illegal.

You can't be serious. The woman is a bimbo of the worst kind. At least Nick knew how to turn on the washing machine, which seemed to cause Jessica trouble...

And who really cares if they break up or not? It's not that surprising that a couple that married in their early 20s splits up after few years.

Yeah, I have to agree. I don't know how the heck he put up with her for as long as he did. It seemed like he was raising a child rather than dealing with a mature, intelligent young lady. Of course she is rich and hot, which I suppose made up for it, at least for a little while.
